Michelle Boudreau on Refreshing an Old Las Palmas Paradise
How the interior designer brought vibrancy and legacy together across her renovation
A storied history. A distinctive aesthetic. And a lush, mountainous scene.
When she took on her renovation of the West House, Michelle Boudreau wanted to honor the home’s rich heritage and natural surroundings. So Boudreau, of the Palm Springs-based Michelle Boudreau Design, started with the story.
The house was built in 1954 and named for its former owner, the actor Adam West. In the 1970s, it was redesigned by renowned architect Albert Frey. Boudreau based her approach around Frey’s own desert modernist style: she incorporated circular and organic shapes, reeded and rounded details, and natural palettes with vibrant accents.
The Old Las Palmas neighborhood and its desert landscape served as a beautiful backdrop. “I was deeply inspired by the beautiful natural layers of colors in the mountains and the various soft greens of the outdoors,” she says. “I brought those colors and textures into the home with a nod to fabrics, furnishings, and fixture shapes.”
